So a week ago I picked up the HTC Dream. A nice little device that is powered by Google’s Android mobile OS.

So after a week of installing and uninstalling, using and not using applications from the “Market”, I thought I’d put together my list of “Must-have-apps”.

DroidSans Tweak Tools Lite

Battery life. If you want your battery to last the day (and I mean the 8-9 hours you spend at work) you will need this app.

Key Features
- Enable Windows Animation : Windows Fading when you open any application
- Enable Transition Animation : Transition effect happen when you change the view
- Enable/Disable GPRS/EDGE connection with one click

ChompSMS
ChompSMS.com

It is a fairly stock SMS app but the soft keyboard is the best. Though it would be cool if it had the phone keypad for fast texting action.

You will also nee to keep track of your data and call usage. God knows the Optus site isn’t going to help you.

NetCounter
Cyril Jaquler

Logs your data usage over 3G and wifi. Just remember to reset it when your month rolls over.

Phonalyzr
Martin Drashkov

Reads your call log and spits out useful info like a nice little useage summary with the total number of minutes used.

aHome
mAPPn, Inc

I tried 3 different home screen replacements and aHome was by far the best. It’s stable and gives you up to 10 screens to hold apps. Plus a nice little dock with your four favourite apps at your finger tips.

Wallpaper Set and Save
Onarres Solutions

Allows you to set/save the active wallpaper. Has a nice little image browser.

OI Shopping List
OpenIntents

Really simple shopping list app. Does what is says on the box.

NewsRob
Marlano Kamp

A great little Google Reader client.

Twidroid
Marban & Zimmermann

If you use Twitter you need Twidroid.

Now for the fun stuff… GAMES!

Scrambled Net
Moonblink

A port of the KDE game Knetwalk. Lots of fun, hard to put down.

Sudoku (Full Version)
genina.com

It’s Sudoku… What more do I need to say, you either love it or you hate it.

Solitaire
Ken Magic

A simple solitaire collection featuring Standard, Spider and Freecell.

Trap
Matt Wachowski

Capture sreen area by trapping moving balls inside walls. Very addictive time sink.
