Lost and Found (Part 4)

October 21st, 2008

I had it all planned… I was going to play it cool, keep it short and polite. Nothing to personal or heavy.

Well that all went to shit after I typed “Hi Dad,”

The words flowed forth like a… something big and flowy. It has no structure, no flow. It’s just a jumble of words and emotions that gushed out of my fingertips uncontrollably. I didn’t criticise or point the finger of blame. I just told him a little bit about me and how getting touch with his side of the family has opened up feelings in me I never knew existed.

First let me just apologise about the state of Part 2. My work blocks my blog so I had to post that from my phone. No excuse really but there it is.

Well I got to work this morning and there, sitting in my Gmail inbox was an email from my Dad. It took me about half an hour to actually open it. I was scared silly. I finally plucked up the courage and read it. It was short and to the point but I cried any way. He wants me to call him so we can talk.

Well it’s done. I just pressed send on the hardest email of my life to date. Yup, the email to my aunt telling her to pass on my email address to my Dad.

My Mum is talking to my Dad for the first time in more than 30 years. And she seems happy about it. My Dad is apparently as scared of talking to me as I am of taking to him :-)

I really have no idea what to expect. I was thinking about it on the walk to work, I started crying. They were happy tears, as I imagined saying “hello Dad” for the first time to my real father.

Lost and Found

Well what a strange two and a half weeks I’ve had.

On September the 29 at 12:08pm (EST) I got a message on FaceBook, from a woman in Florida. It read,

Hi Stefan, Was You Born in Australia or Birmingham, England. UK?

As you can imagine I was more than a bit curious as to how this woman could have any idea as to birthplace. I sent my answer and waited patiently for a reply.

Is Your birthday 19th December 1971?
